INPEOS STREETBAND
Community Music x violence prevention
We drum every week with young people from the Inpeos prevention programme. We learn and develop grooves, come together through music and become a group through music. We regularly bring together the Sonnenberg street band and the Inpeos street band for our community events, taking music to the streets and creating encounters between people who otherwise have little in common. Last year's highlights were the parade at the ‘Hang zu Kultur’ district festival and playing at the lantern parade.
Listening to each other and sharing life stories in the evening led the young people to reflect on their future paths in life and their willingness to shape them actively and consciously. This became clear when regular school attendance, starting therapy or the desire to lead a group as a community musician were expressed that evening and are still being actively pursued a good two months later. Not all of the young people from inpeos were able to travel to Berlin. However, the pride in the performance also had an effect on the young people who had rehearsed from time to time. This became noticeable a week later at another event, the lantern parade. This was only possible because 25 young people acted as additional stewards to secure the parade and proudly integrated themselves into the community."
